Headquartered in New Delhi, Moser Baer India Limited, a leading global tech-manufacturing company is the pioneer to market the next-generation of storage formats like Blu-ray Discs and HD DVD. The company after successful pilot is now entering the LED lighting business as a full scale operation.

For a company to stream-line their business processes and meet company goals, it is important to leverage technology in a smart and efficient manner. With new technologies impending every day, the old ones become obsolete fast. So, keeping pace with the ever shifting technologies, especially for business owners must turn into a priority.

In the current era, mobility is one trending as well as a challenging IT architecture. With the advent of smart devices, the option to conduct business from a definite location is fading fast. Mobility enables an organization to fast track their processes by empowering them to respond quickly from any location, to the changing market conditions as well as remain in sync with consumer behavior.

Another important application that is yet to catch up in the market is Internet of Things (IOT). The smart products if accepted by consumers by 2020 will be an immense thing for businesses as it would provide real time information to businesses on how products and equipments are used, and what a user might want in future.

Along with mobility and IoT, businesses are now adopting virtualized technologies. With virtualization, a group of servers can be pooled into a single computing resource, thus allowing you to run multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single machine. It can not only help reduce costs but can also enhance an organization's business agility.

Innovations Within

At Moser Baer, we are currently shedding off the traditional methods of working. We are setting up our own Research & Development department using our in-house expertise in ERP systems. So we are not only motivating our IT team of 35 professionals to do something out of their scope but encouraging them to take up additional responsibilities as well.

Subsequently, for our customer's benefit, we have introduced mobile application platforms. We have developed an app on LED lighting as per our current business focus. With this app, customers are notified of the number of lights in use, the load that is taken and how that can be replaced with LED lights to optimize savings. Customers may also enjoy the luxury of placing orders directly on the application.

IT Architecture in Future

In future, we are looking to implement IT architecture which will enhance reliability. All our active assets can be logged in to the system and we can monitor the performance level of it. For instance, if a printer's toner has gone low, instead of the user's call, we would resolve it by looking at the diagnostics of the warnings generated by the printer and take actions accordingly in a proactive manner.

Next, we are keen on developing business applications depending on the usage of an item. For example, by monitoring the usage of a printer, we would be able to know the top ten departments to use the printer, and the reason behind printing. This analysis would in turn help us to develop a business application which will enable them to go eco-friendly and share electronic copy of their documents instead of printing it. This is one technique that will help reduce costs in a business.

Key Points to Remember while Selecting an ERP

ERPs help a growing company to look after their business. At Moser Baer, the core business system right from work force management or finance, to logistics or supply chain is completely managed by ERP. There are certain points that one should be aware of while opting for an ERP system-

-Is the ERP Scalable?
By scalable, we mean, if the ERP system is able to map all additional business functions with the growth and expansion of an organization.

-Does the ERP Provide Support?
Support means that there should be a wide knowledge database available. An ERP would turn fatal if we want a solution which may be best of breed but the expertise says that the particular solution may not be available in India.

Most companies nowadays go for ERP like SAP because one can find knowledgeable SAP certified experts who can customize applications for business purposes. Thus one must pick software with the help of which one is able to leverage the functionality of the package, not that after getting the best of the breed, one is not able to use it.
