Trying to keep a business running smoothly, not to mention profitably can often sometimes feel like a challenge, especially when you are forever hopping between programs and processes to keep everything on track. For a small business, initially a company can make-do with spreadsheets and emails, however, as a business expands, the manual operations take its toll. Each business needs technologies with proper functions to bridge the gap between business processes and people. While every company and organization operating today is different, almost every firm faces a common challenge the need to stay competitive in today's business environment for which they need a dependable and efficient way to store and access information. Adopting an ERP solution not just synchronizes all the information and communication within the organization but also ensures that all the critical processes are streamlined effectively. Combining his love for business and technology from an early age of 13, Fabien Pinckaers established TinyERP in 2005, which grew into OpenERP in 2009 before transforming into Odoo in 2014. Set up with a vision to transform the enterprise world, Odoo is an enterprise resource platform from which you can manage all your business operations right from supply chain and project management, to accounting and HR to messaging, sales CRM and reporting modules.

Enabling Business Management through Single Window
An open-source suite of integrated business applications actively programmed, supported, and organized by Odoo SA, Odoo is similar to many opensource projects where customized programming, support, and other services are being provided by an active global community and partners network. This community comprises of more than 1,500 active members and has contributed to more than 4,500 modules to the ongoing enrichment of Odoo. With more than 1500 downloads recorded per day, Odoo is amongst one of the most frequently installed business suites across the world. Some of the major Odoo Apps like Odoo CRM, Odoo Sales, Odoo Accounting, Odoo WMS (Warehouse Management), Odoo HR, Odoo Project, Odoo Events, Odoo Marketing, and likewise are integrated with each other. Being an open-source alternative to many software packages, Odoo can be used by any retailer with its POS (Point Of Sales), and in any website with its CMS (website builder) synchronized with the e-Commerce app. As Enterprise Resource Planning software, Odoo is an alternative to solutions like SAP ERP, Oracle E-Business Suite, Microsoft Dynamics, Netsuite, and others.

Mantavya Gajjar, Managing Director, India, who holds over 10 years' experience in Odoo, starting from TinyERP and OpenERP, says,"At Odoo, we have seamless integration which is not only applied on opportunity or leads, instead we allow every operation, every document, every discussion to be managed on one platform. You don't need any different tools like email mailbox or document reader, or likewise to carry out a business communication. You can track all operations, all actions which happen on the document, all actions taken on one platform. With Odoo, our emphasis is on trying to remove the complex part of the business process, while making it as simple and as fast as possible. Our solution has been designed in a way which allows us to change the way people are doing business today."

The adoption of Odoo online has increased significantly in India due to Odoo's out-of-the-box quick implementation methodology. Speaking about the unique features of Odoo, Mantavya Gajjar adds, "Odoo has two different platforms according to the customer size and segment. For customers with more than 50 users, having a real customer need and budget, we involve our channel partners to work on such projects which take 3 to 6 month's implementation time and all the custom apps are developed on Odoo platform to deliver the custom solutions. For small companies with 50 or fewer users, Odoo delivers solution on its cloud platform, as small companies do not follow business processes and for working with legacy software or using XLS, they need the out-of-the-box solution to implement and follow the standard business processes. The Odoo Enterprise pricing remains the same for all the customers either they start using online platform or on odoo.sh with custom development."

With the ERP market divided into three segments, the top most segment which is around 15 percent, who can afford and maintain proprietary ERP platforms such as SAP; Odoo is not targeting those customers as there is huge untapped market (~85%) still existing there. The major problems with the middle segment, either they do not have enough money to buy ERP or they do not have manpower which can work and maintain such a complex ERP systems. The bottom segment, they are dreaming about the ERP but they lack the right business practices in place. Also, they do not have the budget, and its a huge market including the small, medium and micro business which falls under this segment. Odoo is not designed for any industry-specific or vertical or customer segment. "At Odoo, we offer solutions to the middle and bottom segment, the biggest challenge being the ability to manage the huge scope and scalability of the software while staying as simple as possible in usability," speaks Mantavya.

The Road to Success Comes through Hard Work
A blaze a trail entrepreneur, Fabien Pinckaer's hard work and determination are well reflected in Odoo which has turned into a multinational company with offices across three continents and more than 670 employees. Odoo has been recognized with INSEAD Innovator Award in 2011, Highest-ranked Belgian company in the Deloitte Technology Fast50 Benelux (growth of turnover of 1549% in the past 5 years) in 2012, Bossie Award for the Best Open Source Solution in 2012 & 2013, Trends Gazelles Award in 2013, Linux New Media Award for The Best Open Source solution compatible with European Accounting Systems in 2013, "L'Entreprise Prometteuse" by Ernst & Young in 2013, and Trends Gazelles Ambassador 2018 for Middle Enterprises in the Walloon Brabant region in 2018. Fabien's goal is sim-ple - to provide an affordable, easy-to-use, open-source, and integrated business software so that companies can focus on growing their business rather than running it. Odoo operates on a simple notion that business software should cover complex needs without being complicated. Keeping up with its objectives, Odoo provides software that is intuitive, full-featured, tightly integrated, effortless to upgrade, all while running smoothly for every business, every user. With its offices spread across the US, Belgium, Luxembourg, India and Hong Kong, Odoo aspires to give millions of companies easy access to the software they need to run and expand their business.

Its "On-Premise" offer has helped it set a niche for itself as one of the most installed business soft-ware in the world. With all the apps and offerings, Odoo has moved far beyond the boundaries of traditional ERP Players across. In the years to come the firm aspires to expand in terms of numbers of employees so as to reach more number of people across the globe. Throwing light on the coming plans of Odoo, Mantavya tells, "Currently we are hundred plus employees and in the next few years we would like to double our team size. We are also focusing on expanding across every country, localization, like accounting localization and HR localization." Apart from this, Odoo is also working towards the release of a new version of Odoo. Every year, around October, Odoo organizes an event where a new version of Odoo is rolled out.
