The year 2008 was indeed a challenging time for one of the world's largest integrated producers of polymers and fibers. The global financial crisis left the company with a huge challenge in demand planning and inventory management. To the rescue, came Arkieva Demand and Inventory Planner through which this company was able to create forecasts with collaborative input from sales, providing everyone with a shared and current view of demand. Arkieva, a 22 year old company was highly successful in saving 30 percent of the company's inventory and about 30 million dollars. With many such successful implementations to its credit, Arkieva has recently made its way as a challenger in the Magic Quadrant released by Gartner for Sales and Operations Planning Systems of Differentiation report. The company has strong focus on supply chain planning solutions and has enabled many of its illustrious clients to plan demand, manage inventories, optimize supply and schedule production.

The journey of Arkieva dates back to 1993 when the founders of the company, who were involved in the supply chain space since 1980s, observed a big shift in the supply chain logistics in the manufacturing sector. Businesses were moving towards ERP implementations and the million dollar question was what had to be done with the ERP data. Sensing the opportunity to enable planning based on these data, Arkieva was started. Initially started as a supply chain consulting firm, the company launched a Microsoft based product named Arkieva in 2001. Arkieva, the product gets the data from clients' ERPs and supports them in terms of planning; thereafter presenting it to the users. Arkieva has earned a prestigious clientele base that includes Momentive, Sunsweet, Hexion, AkzoNobel, Ineos, Certis amongst many others.

While talking about differentiators of Arkieva, Ashith B. Hegde, Managing Director, Asia Pacific Region says how having worked with more than 300 clients has gained the company an enduring experience to understand supply chain challenges, devise solutions and understand the needs of clients. Arkieva, built on Microsoft Stack also gives a smooth user experience to the customers apart from efficiently integrating with different functions. The delivery model of Arkieva - Rapid Prototyping Approach comes as a silver lining to the product. The organization also meticulously contributes 20 percent of its annual budget to innovation and research andhasrecently launched an IPad app for mobile sales collaboration.

Arkieva, which is headquartered in the US, has its India office in Mangalore where it is slowly starting to market its products. "We will continue to invest in latest technologies, implement best processes to serve our clients' better. We have always had a strong presence in the process manufacturing sector such as chemical and food processing. Over the past few years, we have expanded into Discrete, pharmaceuticals and other significant sectors," concludes Ashith.
