One of the great newsmen Walter Cronkite once famously commented on the healthcare system in America which I strongly find apt for the Indian healthcare system too. He quoted, "The current health care system is neither healthy, caring, nor a system." This clearly defines the state of healthcare in India, which is indubitably going through a revolution, yet very far from the goal of 'healthcare for all'. The healthcare infrastructure in rural India, where 65 percent of the Indian population is concentrated, has witnessed relatively slow growth than that of the healthcare facilities in urban areas. Lack of adequate coverage makes it difficult for people to get the healthcare they need and, when they do get care, it burdens them with hefty medical bills. What can bridge the gap, improve the quality of healthcare delivery, and reduce the cost of care is adopting a holistic digital healthcare strategy that focuses on integrated care models.

According to a new analysis from Frost & Sullivan, "Connected health infrastructure is emerging in healthcare as a binding agent for diverse devices and workflows, aiding diagnosis, monitoring and prevention." Shruthi Parakkal, Frost & Sullivan Healthcare Research Analyst, writes, "More than 50 percent of healthcare providers do not have a healthcare IT roadmap, although they acknowledge the role of digital health in enhancing healthcare efficiency." Certainly, the capabilities and efficiency that IT solutions like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Hospital Management Systems (HMS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Video Solutions and others can drive, cannot be ignored. Healthcare providers therefore have an urgent requirement for connected devices and health IT solutions not only to manage healthcare data, but also to facilitate better healthcare delivery and managing the increasing crowds at healthcare centers with ease.
